Spring has been slow to arrive in these parts and I've never seen many birds in my small backyard that are very spectacular. Nevertheless I was looking for an excuse to go outside without a coat and when I saw what has been poking holes in my pine tree I went out for some photographic surveilance.

First up, the perp:

Looking around I saw this little guy in one of my spruce trees:


Then I saw this small beedy-eyed forager:


Finally I heard a bumblebee buzz by and turned the BIGMA on him:

like the ones with the woodpecker and all the holes visible... makes the pictures so more interesting, showing something they've done. (not that the other ones aren't good, those two are just my favorites of the bunch)

My favorite of the group is the Chipping Sparrow in the evergreens. Nice composition.

Thanks Dan and Stephen for your kind comments. I think my favourite might be #3 as it makes me wonder what the little sparrow might be thinking as he's staring at the woodpecker. "Man his head must hurt!" or "If he kills that tree I'm gonna be ticked."
