16-45 makes for a good Macro lens - lots of room for cropping but there was some post processing needed here as the shot was taken in heavy shade with out flash. But thank you for the positive comments.

Arjay, this is a great photo and I cannot believe this lens being taken with 16-45!

The details are amazing.

Thanks All!

and roenterre, I just went back and checked cos I started with the 50-200 but I couldn't get close enough. Sure enough: 16-45ED at 40mm, 1/160sec, F7.1, ISO200, AV priority, Spot metering. I have taken other macros with this lens quite satisfactorily I think:

The white spots on the butterfly wings tricked the metering a bit at 30cm working distance and made the image a bit dark. Tried it with Brightness and Contrast tool only but it was still striking the wrong balance and was washed out. First posted the image on <potd.com.au> (I have been a member for years - see signature) and a couple of the members there gave me some feedback so I did a rework.

Leveled and then used Benjikan's sharpening action to pop it out a little. Much better result thank you for the tutorial Benjamin.

Again thank you all for the compliments.

This shot above is very nice in my opinions. A lot of people who are really keen on macro preferred more depth of field, contrary to the shot in this style where the eyes are the only part that is in focus.

I like the fact that the bokeh is quite pleasant (though a bit chalky and pentagon shaped). I am going through your port folio now, Arjay

Unbelievably nice macros...

Now, as an obsessive person, I should add that the out of focus areas are not pentagon but octagon shaped with 8 sides.
Also, I noticed that although Bojidar reports 8 aperture blades for this lens, Photozone reports 6. The last one is an error, I think...

Sorry for the diversion; keep watching the nice macros
