I bought this lens used for $100 i think 2 days ago and went out to take some shots.
Theres nothing like the excitement of trying something new. I think im gonna have some real good times with this lens.

All alone in a windy place.

You look to have a good copy of that lens

Truly the 50-200 is my go-to Af hiking lens. Always a good performer

The shots are very good and I think you are gonna love this lens. (especially for what you paid for it!)

I like how the tree branch frames the sheep in the first one

And the last is a nice sunset/rise... good colors.

That second shot... If that tree is close to you, I would do a bunch of shots from different angles using that bent tree to frame the shot almost like you have done in the sheep shot....

Welcome to the 50-200

I must've got a poor copy of this lens because I found it almost unusable wide open or close to 200mm. I sold it and got a Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 instead and find it much more usable.

Igilligan, thx for your comments, i am actually going back to shoot that tree again, i will try your suggestion among with other ideas i have. And i hope to run into a fallow deer or two.

CWyatt: Did you buy the APO version? I considered buying that one, but when the offer to buy this lens came up, i couldnt stop myself.

redpigeons: I guess its all about luck, tho i dont know if my copy is any better than what anyone else have. Ive seen great and poor pictures taken with the 50-200mm as i have with pretty much any lens. Im glad to see you were impressed

Mine's the non-APO. It significantly outperforms my Pentax DA 50-200. Still has plenty of issues though. Both can be a bit ugly wide open, and the end of their zoom range. But the Sigma is much better at 200mm, and if you can stop it down it can be really sharp.

Ok, i tought the non apo was supposed to be worse than the pentax 50-200 and that the apo version was better than the pentax zoom.
But maybe you did get a bad copy of your pentax lens. Anyway, whats important is that you are happy with your current lens.

The shots I took to compare my Pentax and Sigmas showed them about the same wide open up to 150mm-ish, with the Sigma sharper with less CA when they were both stopped down. Close to, and especially at 200mm, the Sigma is much better - probably because it's nowhere near the end of its zoom range when the Pentax is. The Sigmas vary quite a lot, I've heard about very good and bad ones, I think mine is about in the middle.
