Wow these photos are stunning. The shots look so fresh, vibrant and lifelike.
Love the deep rich colours and superb bokeh.

Thank you both for your kind comments.

I had spent the morning with an autofocus test chart (again !), trying to get to grips with hit and miss autofocus with the 31mm Ltd. I have come to the conclusion that the best bet is to calibrate the camera to the DA40mm, and accept that the 31mm Ltd can't be relied upon to auto focus (at least close up that is).

So I packed away the tripod, cleaned my glasses, and headed out to take some manual focus shots. I was very pleased with the results.

When I bought my first autofocus camera (Pentax Z1) I was in awe of a/f technology and never questioned it.... but of course most of the time was only viewing a 7"x5" print. With the digital age on us now we have the ability to test our shots quickly and in great detail. I have ordered one of the many split prism focus screens available and will fit it to my DS when it arrives. I find it quite ironic that the digital age seems be leading many photographers to return to manual focus after years of having got used to a/f with film cameras.

The 3-D effect with this lens is stunning. I really like your #2 shot, it is as if the flower is jumping out of the screen!

I own the DS, a 31 Ltd and one of these chinese split prism focus screens. I like it to use MF. And I have to say, the split prism is OK but not so good as you know from older Pentax MF cameras. I don't like the focus screen, everything has something like a aureole around, it isn't easy to get it sharp on the screen. May be I change it back to the original screen.

Those pictures are outstanding! Hadn't thought about it before, but now have to consider adding that lens to the list.
