got an "honorable mention"! · 12:44 PM

The Boston Globe (newspaper) runs online photo contests every month,
on a whim I entered last month's "Spring Sports" contest and today I
found out my image was judged in the top 10 and got an "honorable mention"!
I'm really pleased!

here is the image, "conference on the mound":

I can see why it received an honorable mention - excellent image in less than ideal conditions. Great expressions and the sunlight reflecting on the catcher's helmet is a bonus.

That is a great shot. The flare off the helmet really adds something too.. Thankfully you've got the sun reflecting off the sand/dirt on the mound that helps with the less-than-optimal lighting conditions.

thanks, Dan. I have to 'fess up that I tweaked the brightness in the shadow region
just a little bit. I had plenty of practice in this lighting condition during the season,
this field is bordered by mature woods on all but the 3rd base side, so the only
choice was to shoot into the setting sun. You can see the shadows in the background of the image.
