B&W retro scheme aircraft
Posted By: ismaelg, 07-23-2009, 02:44 PM

Hello,

This particular aircraft has a retro scheme. But the day I took this pic the weather was not good and the light was pretty bad. So I tried a B&W conversion.
Let me know what you think.

Thanks,

How much of the original images did you crop out? I'm assuming you cropped quite a lot, as the images don't have that crisp downsampled look.

Who cares what the crop was or the resize.... I'm just wondering WHY AA would do up a modern aircraft in such a retro paint scheme...

'who cares'. it looks incredibly cool. modern design sucks. just look at the lettering. and the striping. oh and the polished aluminum... man AA had a nice schme back then.

Hey pal, the answer is: I care. Don't you think I wouldn't have asked had I not cared?

Wasn't meant as a criticism Seamus... I like the old liveries, but it seems strange that AA would go to the expense to do it up.

I know, I was just playing on your post. I have no idea why either. but would it really be more expensive to do a vintage scheme as opposed to a current one? less cost in paint, but I have no idea how expensive it is to have the aluminum polished.

Probably wouldn't be more expensive from a materials point of view, but the layout would be an additional cost. After all, the standard paint scheme is probably done with lots of premade masks and measurements. This one, they'd have to do design work and figure out how to get it to flow on a modern jet. I actually enjoy the tribute to the old days but it seems strange given the way most airlines are hemoraging cash.

p.s. don't all of AA's jets have a minimal paint scheme? Even their modern ones are mostly polished aluminum with just the lines and logo painted.

Ismael... Sorry didn't mean to hijack the thread. Fine photos of an unusual aircraft!

I guess it shows I don't fly much. you are correct, even the modern paint scheme has a lot of polished aluminum. but who's to say this is a recent job? when was this plane painted with this scheme? is this not a 737? what is the current Boeing model used by AA?

Looks like it was a "milestone" aircraft... 50th 737-800 delivered from Boeing to AA in Dec 2000.
