Alinghi 5, catamaran for next America's Cup
Posted By: tcom, 07-27-2009, 04:16 AM

Two weeks ago, the catamaran of Alinghi was put in the water of Lake Geneva. They do make the first testings here. In the next two or three weeks, the catamaran will be transported to the sea.

But for the moment, the Alinghi 5, the catamaran for the next America's Cup is here on the lake with the crew.

I tried to take a few photos during the weekend. I would have liked that they put on the sail while still in reach for my tele, but the sail is so large, they prefer to be well off the coast before putting it on, so out of reach for the DA*300...

Here are the shots:

K-7, DA70

K-7, DA*300

I took the following photos with the K-7 and the Sigma 10-20/4-5.6. For some reasons, I do find this lens does not perform as well as on the K10D. I guess the 14MP sensor outresolves the Sigma 10-20/4-5.6. Maybe the new Sigma 10-20/3.5 is better in this regards

Yep, that is one beast of thing...

The old six degrees of separation thing happening here, I met the girlfriend of one of the two crew of the Macquarie Innovation, on a train which just happened to be going past the same Lake Geneva seen above! (albeit 20 years ago.)
Small world indeed. I've known Simon McKeon since the late 1970s when he was sailing a QB2 and I was sailing an A at McCrae YC.

No worries, Jer. There are some interesting photos here Team Invictus - C Class Catamaran for competing in the Little America's Cup You might spot some links between The Edge series of C Class, Yellow Pages Endeavour and Macquarie Innovation

I've got other links. If you're interested, drop me a PM.

It's worse than that, the girls found me on the train 'cause I was wearing an Australia II rugby top.

And even worse, my father worked for... Nylex!!!

Hmm, McCrae YC, you would know the odd Contender sailor I'd think.

The world is just so small...

Oh no! We were trying to get Miss Nylex out of retirement for a C Class regatta about 25 years ago. No luck.

I used to. I really wanted a contender at one time. Mad things, but then I once tried to sail a 505 with all three sails set, single handed and out on the wire Got hooked by A Class instead.
