The first Snail Kite Nest I started watching this year was successful. I stopped following it since it was hidden in the reeds and too far to photograph the adults when sitting near the nest, even with my 500mm w/1.5xTC. Today I believe the adults were trying to lure their chick out of the nest. They would fly by the nest with a snail, as a tease, then fly to a tree line behind me. In the series I am posting the Male Snail Kite transfers a snail from it's talon to it's beak.

Using the Kenko TC I see. Does not support SDM though correct? You use manual focus for these BIF shots or put the DA*300 throught the indignity of screw drive?

My Kenko Teleplus SHQ 1.5X TC has contacts compatable with SDM. It is slower to focus but if I manualy use the focus to assist it will lock in CF mode. The TC works better with my HSM Sigma 150 500mm then the Pentax DA* 300mm even though Sigma says their lens will only focus manualy with their own 1.4x TC.
