Mighty Ceiba Tree
Posted By: ismaelg, 07-28-2009, 07:49 PM

Hello,

These trees are believed to be over 500 years old. I have no idea how accurate that is. But they are amazing indeed. They are so big my DA18-55 was struggling from a distance. When this particular highway was been expanded to the current 4 lane configuration about 15-20 years ago, the plan was to knock them down. But common sense prevailed, with help from an uproar in the town, to go around them.
How many hurricanes have these faced over the centuries? If they could talk!
Dynamic range was a challenge (shadows/highlights). These are smaller sized for web but the full size pics are far better.

Those are some of the coolest trees I've ever seen. It's a shame no one thought to give them a little more breathing room--like moving the road well away from them. But I guess they can be easily admired this way...

The trees certainly are amazing. The roots are gigantic, as if they decided they were going to be here for a long time.
