Help with my choice for a challenge
Posted By: K McCall, 07-29-2009, 06:44 PM

Hi, all,

I hate to bring up the "other" forum, but dpreview is having a Pentax-only challenge this week where we have to show
QuoteQuote:
your skills capturing fast moving things. Trains, planes, cars, animals, people - it's your call, but make sure that the subject is razor sharp.

This is not my kind of photography, but I feel like I have to enter something, so I have the following. Which one do you like best? You don't have to say why. Also, not all technically adhere to the challenge rules (it specifies minimal post-processing) but I can re-process any of them so they fit.

Thanks for looking and voting!

1. Chasing Butterflies

2. Crane

3. Take Off

4. Bumblebee

Torn between 1 and 3.

I'm going with 3.

number 3... the sense of movement and complemented by the sharpness required makes
this pic the one to go with....... best of luck!!!

Well, it looks like #3 is going to take it! My boyfriend said I should choose this one, and my only concern was that it didn't fit the precepts of the challenge as well as the others; I took it that we're supposed to show just what Pentax _can_ do, and all I did for the pigeon shot was locked focus on the edge of the fountain and waited.

Also, for what it's worth, I think the "Chasing Butterflies" shot was manually focused; it was taken with the D-FA 100 macro, which is sooooo slooooow at focusing that I don't see how it could have locked in time. I also went back to my RAW files from this day, and it was the first and only snap of the butterfly I took - I just got lucky.

They are all interesting but I like the last one though the third one may look better on print. JIM

I think No. 1 is the best one.

Keitha, you're going to get votes on each shot becuase they're just all superb. What I like about #2, though, is the composition, striking sharpness and exquisite lighting that brings out the beauty of the crane. Then again #3 is just brilliant too. Well done with all of them.

i'd say 2 is my overall favourite, as an image (at this size). however i'd probably go for 3, for the challenge. all of them are very good shots, well done (and well selected, which is a big part of being a photographer )

Thanks so much to everyone who voted and expressed their opinions! #2 remains one of my favorite shots of all time - one of those really lucky moments that just seem frozen in time for me.

But I went with #3 for the challenge.

Hopefully there'll be another opportunity to pull out some of these other shots soon!
