Lightning Storm at Sunset in Vancouver
Posted By: legacyb4, 08-02-2009, 07:57 PM

Last weekend, we had the most intense lightning storm that I've seen in the 5 years I've been here. It started off with an extremely hot summer day, big thunderhead clouds rolling in during the late afternoon, and a sunset that made the entire sky light up in fire.

As the sun set, the cloud cover played havoc with color balance but I actually like how the shots turned out with the unreal blues & purples captured with the DA 21mm.

DA 70mm | F2.4 | ISO 400 | 1/100 s | 0 EV

DA 21mm | F3.2 | ISO 400 | 3/10 s | 0 EV

DA 21mm | F3.2 | ISO 400 | 1/5 s | 0 EV

DA 21mm | F3.2 | ISO 400 | 3/5 s | 0 EV

Nice shots Jeff - love the colors in #1. I tired to capture some lightening on the weekend , but by the time I set up it was over (and it was still daylight ).

Great shots! Can you post the EXIF details for the shots? PhotoME isn't picking up any camera settings from the posted examples. Thanks!

Stunning shots, I was on Spanish beach that night. Not one of my better photo encounters, All I will say is always check your bag for Batteries and SD cards.

Thanks all, it was truly an amazing sight to see for us Vancouverites. I only wish I had been able to capture the really big horizontal bolt that had flashed across the sky; that would have been something else!

Really love #3! Awesome..

Were you using a lightning trigger or just trying to time your shutter?

Added in the basic EXIF info; odd that it's not showing because Smugmug is picking up the data...

Thanks; I was just trying to time my shutter with the lightning strikes. These are the keepers, not to mention how many throwaway attempts there were!

Wow!

Very nice, Jeff!

I had to be inside at that time, unfortunately. But I certainly heard it!
