WR Video Camera (K-7) takes kid chasing to new level...
Posted By: heliphoto, 08-04-2009, 03:25 PM

A big reason I have a camera is family snaps... chasing my son playing in a sprinkler perfectly illustrates why I wanted video capability in my SLR...

video 1
video 2

and now a couple stills

That's some nice video

Did you deliberately end the videos after one minute, or did the camera decide to end it for you? I posted a thread about some cards being too slow for K-7 video here https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-discussion/68915-verbatim-tra...k-7-video.html

I'm sold on k7

Thanks for sharing.

Seems I now have to go check the ergonomics and see if I like the feel

These were shot at this length, but I have run into that phenomenon a few times with my Transcent 16GB card (at around two or three minutes though I think) looks like I'll have to upgrade to a faster card, thanks for the info.

Well, in that case, you're going to be buying one soon - I find the ergonomics quite nice (though the change from the K*D series sure takes some getting used to.

Thanks, he is cute . Nice to have those videos now that I'm back to work for the next month and won't see him.

If anyone's interested in technique (which I just made up since I don't know anything about video), I simply stopped down to f/11 (I think), and focused fairly close - about 3.5 feet @ 16mm focal length... DOF master's calculator says this should give me this DOF, which seems about right...

I will definitely be using these sort of quasi-hyperfocal settings for this sort of video in the future, as manually focusing on a running child while running myself doesn't sound like a recipe for success .

Hey Josh,

That IS good video, just the thing to keep the memories of home alive while away. I've been ignoring the K-7 as much as possible, but the video of your little bloke is quite a selling point to me. I've enjoyed the stills you have taken as he gets older, the vid just adds to that dimension.

I'm having a spell from work at the moment, years of expedition caving, hang gliding and wave sailing caught up with me. Did my knee mowing the lawn! I'll do my best to stay away from the local camera shop and testing the 7!

Sorry to hear 'bout your knee Dale - at least it happened outside of your busy work season (I think). I was convinced I wanted video in my next SLR, and I'm glad I have it. Good luck keeping it at arms length ... Here's to a speedy recovery!
