End Homelessness Now! Project #15
Posted By: paulyrichard, 08-09-2009, 02:30 PM

This is the latest addition to my portfolio of homeless images, for my project.

These guys are Hazel and Toni, who have a terrible story to tell, one that I have noted down and will write about on my Wordpress blog at a later date. I still need to talk with them furthermore for more facts.

Well captured, Pauly. The desperation (or maybe its simply sadness) on the man's face is disturbing.

Very powerful image. Like the slight tilt which fits the image. JIM

There's a lot of weariness in those eyes, but also quiet determination. A beautiful image of an ugly subject. Well done!

Its amazing how many homeless work a day job. Many more who worked for years paycheck to paycheck end up homeless due to an on the job injury or brief illness. I hope your project will help open our eyes to the problem. Our church houses the homeless each winter along with many surrouding churches. I will clue them in to what you are doing.

What makes this work IMO is that it was taken from in close with a wide angle lens. So many think they are being great PJs because they shoot the homeless, but do it from a distance with a long lens. Being in close lets us connect with your subject; it also makes a strong suggestion that you have bonded with your subject, which makes a big difference too. The woman in the background is another great detail. Nicely done.

Darren, your right of course. You need to have a rapport with your subject and make a connection. Cheers.
