A great contrast, Tom. Maybe you can combine these two photos together and warp it like how a book is opened. It would look very interesting!!

They are really nice photos Tom. Your north american heron has more colours than our grey european heron.

very slick Tom - never been able to get close enough to get a shot of one of these birds. any secrets to share on getting up close?

Dan - One tip is to never approach the subject directly. Always angle off to the side. Take your time. Don't make direct eye contact. Make sense?

Alan - I used my FA*300 for both shots.

Tom, yeah makes sense.. that's what I've tried to do...

last time I saw one was Saturday, unfortunately there were also 6 canada geese in the swamp next to the heron, I didn't even get my head up over a small hill and they went nuts, and as soon as they started their barking the heron bailed.

I'll get a shot one of these days. =)

for now I'll enjoy your pics of them. -D
