Pentax goes anywhere -- vacation shots
Posted By: rparmar, 08-15-2009, 06:22 PM

into the whirlpool

I didn't see anyone else with an SLR on this trip under the raging Niagara Falls. But that's likely because no-one else has heard of Pentax. :-) The camera may be weather sealed but the wide angle zoom wasn't, so I took pictures very very quickly. The mist and sun polarised light in every which way.

The trip was far more impressive than any picture can convey. If you do one thing at Niagara Falls, ride the Maid of the Mist.

Wall-E

Pentax goes into the future... and finds a friendly robot.

AGO profile

Pentax goes all old school.

It's difficult to get a sense of this building from the street, and in that way perhaps the grand architecture fails. it seems to be made for viewing on a model. Didn't get a chance to see much of the interior... my those tickets cost a lot!

(I remember the days before the conservatives, when the AGO was free and only special exhibitions cost money. Before they closed down the observatory. And crippled education. Oh, the glory days.)

Toronto skyline

Here the Pentax looks up, up, up.

(Oh look, there's Rusty.)

And yes, the building is made of gold.

Aye, I can vouch for the "Maid of the Mist" trip, it's when he's just feet from the falling wall of water, you just hope he doesn't stall the motor.

I know what you mean, though if he stalls the motor the boat will be pushed out of harm's way. It seems to me that thing has to struggle just to stay where it is against the flow of water.

But what happens if it is really 1966 and a Russian spy trying to kill a double agent on the boat shoots the pilot and he falls over the thrust full-forward?

That Toronto Skyline photo is very impressive! The space between the buildings forms an interesting pattern.

Ah, Toronto. Hopefully the strike was over and the garbage picked up when you visited. P. U!
Nice perspective on the office towers.

The strike was over and most rubbish removed, but all of the public bins were still stuffed full and sealed off. But i was in Toronto during a similar strike in the eighties. I can tell you that on that occasion Chinatown was a mess!

Terrific series, Robin. The last time I was on the Maid, I used my old Nikonos.

Nikonos on the Maid of the Mist and your tag is sailor? I am sensing some sort of a trend here.

I used my Panasonic P&S back when I was at the maid of the mist... trusted that guy a lot and while I don't get any good shots, it didn't get damaged

Love that shot of the skyline! 18mm?

That's all the way wide at 12mm.

(Someday I'll figure out why my workflow kills EXIF data. ACR to Photoshop shouldn't be a problem.)

I just use Photoshop Elements 6 and don't lose EXIF data from my K10D... Hmmm. Anyway, great photos!
