Visit to the Zoo. K10D, SR and poor High ISO
Posted By: VaughnA, 08-16-2009, 02:48 PM

Here are a few from my visit to the NC Zoo this weekend. The snakes were taken handheld with SR, ISO 1600 at 160-200mm with the kit 50-200 lens through the glass at slow shutter speeds. I was knocked over by how well it worked shooting in those conditions. Obviously the POOR High ISO comment was a bit of Sarcasm. Saw one other pentaxian, he looked at me like a fool when I commented on his camera and how nice it was to see another pentaxian.

African Eagle:

Grizzly:

Corn Snake:

Timber Rattler:

River Otter:

And a little B&W playing

I can't see how this is worse than K100D, and that sensor's ISO 1600 is supposed to be superior Great shots!

IMHO a used K10D is one of the deals right now. Here's my complete kit.

K10D 375 bucks, new (bought from other member who got it at closing ritz store).
DA-50-200, 100 Ebay
DA-18-55, 100 ritz.
SMC A-50 F/2, 30 Pentax Forums,
Tokina A 28 F/2.8 10, Pawnshop
Quantaray (sigma) 28-90 Macro, 20 pawnshop.
Vivitar 3500 flash: 12 pack of sierra nevada.

So for 635 bucks and a 12 pack I have 5 lenses and a great, well built camera.

Try that with Canikon..

Thanks,

Remember only the snakes were at 1600. But they look great to me. I'm really impressed at what you can do with SR and the high ISO performance. I have no need to spend more money for a new body right now....Lenses are a different matter.

I love the photos too, very sharp and clear with nice color--my fav is the African eagle. I am into the wildlife shots, but am still practicing before posting any. I also shoot with the K10D and love it. I in fact now have two of them. One for the smaller lens and one for the big ones. I am working on upgrading the lenses too--hopefully the pics will be upgraded too.
