Spy Novel Sun Rise
Posted By: Sailor, 08-17-2009, 07:40 PM

I was reviewing some old shots this evening and came across this one I took in the spring of '08 (I may have posted a color version earlier ???). I converted it to B&W just to see the effect. For some reason, it made me think of a Le Carre novel.

If I might suggest: perhaps see what it looks like if you clone out those branches in the upper left? It's not a criticism, since those branches can add perspective - I am just curious.

Regards,
Marc
Here are two versions - one cloned and one, because I'm a CC (Crappy Cloner), simply eliminating the branches by cropping. As I mentioned to Marc in a PM, I sort of wish the branches had been more prevalent or totally absent.

I'd go for the detective novel feel here. Of course he/she would live on a boat

Jer, may I post an uncropped, cloned out version for you? If you want to print it later on, it is not a problem if you would like me to help with that matter.

Marc

Interesting shot whoever plays with it!

It seems to me that B&W adds something to an image - must be why I get a buzz out of classic B&W images and movies.....

And as for the scene - its a Graham Greene novel IMHO like Our Man in Havana has that Caribbean look to me with the haze and sun....not quite Le Carre's The Perfect Spy

Hey Scott - PI living on a boat works very well.

Thanks much. I'm finding myself doing an increasing number of BW conversions, in part for the reasons you enjoy B&W.

Perfect!! I'm gonna have to learn to clone effectively (I use PSP X2); my daughter is a whizz at this - I've simply got to let her show me the ropes the next time she's in Texas.

Thanks so much, Marc, for going to such trouble. I really appreciate it.

My honor Jer.

Here's a tip: if you have issues with using the cloning tool, try using the healing tool instead. However, you must click on an area outside the item(s) to be removed. Click and drag the tool (at perhaps 60-70 pixels in size) in short strokes and release, while making sure the movement is from outside (in a smooth uniform color area) towards the middle of the object being removed. Normally this will work fairly well.

Otherwise use the cloing tool at an even larger diameter, but you have to be a fair distance from the edge of the image when you take the sample clone. That's why you were getting the image edge showing up in the cloning effort you tried out.

Let me know if I didn't make sense or you don't have this option (healing tool)?

Regards,
Marc
