Elora Gorge
Posted By: 8540tomg, 08-21-2009, 06:13 AM

Went to Elora yesterday on our anniversary to walk around the quaint little town. Nice place to spend a day. I took my DA70/2.4 along for the ride. For some reason I don't use this one much. Not the ideal lens for landscapes but nice and light. Here's a few things that caught my eye as we walked about.

Local merchants avoid neon. Some local signage

James Ross house.

and a few DA 70 views of the gorge from the Elora Inn patio:

Great place to sip some wine and watch the river flow by.

Looks like a great place for relaxing and getting some nice shots. I wish I had a place like that close to me.

Thanks Pentax XTC

It is only 1/2 an hour down the road and we visit frequently.

Ahh, these kind of lovely towns warm my heart.
There are a few of these nostalgic places where I am and they are very refreshing to visit.
Thanks for sharing.

Karine,

Grand Gourmet may be a French restaurant someplace but these folks sell gourmet cooking utensiles, pots, pans etc. A cool little store.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks Kerrowdown and Ash,

It was a very good day.

My ancestors came from Scotland to this Elora/Fergus area around 1820. There are a lot of stone buildings (by N. American standards) built by that generation. I've been told it looks very European.

Thanks Lowell,

Took a day off the birds. Actually there was a Blue Heron hunting at the foot of the falls but 70mm just didn't have enough reach. Did you notice these are my first autofocus shots since... I can't remeber when. You know, this autofocus stuff is a lot easier than manual focus. I could get used to this.

Cheers

Great shots!

I love Elora. It's just down the road from me (I live in Guelph). My sister-in law lives in Salem actually which is attached to Elora. It is also quite beautiful, but not nearly as touristy.

Oh, damnit, now, because of your nice pictures, I'm going to have to take my wife there for our anniversary.

Seriously - we've always been meaning to get there but seem like everytime we make arrangements, something comes up.

Thanks for sharing the pics of a nice S.Ont. destination.

I was planning to go to Elora myself. Always seemed to bypass it for some reason. Nice images, I particulary like the quality of light in the last three images. Just look at how the colours sing in the porch image. Bright and not flat or shadow-filled- wonderful bright overcast light!

Beautiful pic's!

It's been a while since I've been up to Elora to do any shooting. A shame, considering I'm only a few minutes south of there (Guelph).

Book a place at the Inn for the weekend. She will love you for it.
