Classic cars crusing at night
Posted By: Ian Tokeo, 08-21-2009, 02:12 PM

Took these during my town's annual car show and cruise weekend. All shot with K20d at 1600 ISO, Sigma 24-60mm lens at f/2.8, shutter speeds from a low of 1/8 second to a high of 1/30.

Woodward Dream Cruise

Nice shots. Love those ol' Hot Rods...

And then there was... in my neighborhood.

"Hot rods and hot bods don't mix, according to the Royal Oak Police Department.

During the Woodward Dream Cruise, when car lovers convene to watch classic cars and other unique vehicles cruise down Woodward Avenue, an entertainment company rolled out a transparent cube truck featuring two dancers shimmying up and down poles inside.

"They were upside down with their legs spread facing the crowd," Sgt. Robert Reilly told the Royal Oak Daily Tribune. One of the dancers accidentally exposed a breast and could face an indecent exposure charge. "

Cheers...

Cool last shot - panned very well.
Sounds like it was a very noisy night!

Did you use flash on the last one?

Thanks for the kind words. The last one's my favorite too. No flash, but 1/8 second exposure. I like the effect of the slow shutter speed while panning with the moving car. It's very hit and miss to get the timing just right, with a lot more misses than hits, but when the pan syncs with the speed of the car, the result can be pretty interesting.

I'm the editor of a weekly newspaper, which gives me plenty of opportunities for taking photos. The last shot above was our front page photo this week, and I've gotten several positive comments about it from readers. A friend teased me about it though, giving me a little warning about getting "artsy fartsy."

Beautiful! The night light and reflections plus the motion really make these stand out.
The last one is my favourite also.
