K20D does Supermoto!
Posted By: brembo, 08-22-2009, 01:08 AM

Tagged along to a local SM trackday recently to snaps some shots of the 'tards whizzing around the track. Lenses used were the Sigma 17-70 and a the 50-200mm Pentax kit lens. The Sigma performed great, but the 50-200 was so-so (at best), and needed to be stopped way down before it produced decent results. I would've loved to be able to get my hands on a Sigma 100-300 f/4 for the day but alas I didn't know of anyone who could lend me one. AF-C preformed well, although with the bikes passing a few metres away it did struggle at times, hit rate was about 50/50.

I've submitted a couple to the PPG so lets see how that pans out. Next time out at the track I plan to work on some slower shutter panning, this time I was just getting my eye in.

1. Pentax 50-200 @ 200mm, f/7.1, 1/800s, ISO 400.

2. Pentax 50-200 @ 200mm, f/8, 1/1000s, ISO 400.

3. Sigma 17-70 @ 70mm, f/7.1, 1/1000s, ISO 400.

Not bad for the kit telezoom...
This is where it would shine, though, in full sunlit conditions to get the action-stopping shutter speeds...
#2's slightly OOF, but you did really well with these.
The 50-200's much easier to carry around than the 100-300 though...
