A week on the Ohio Farm, and some pets
Posted By: Morbo, 08-23-2009, 08:33 AM

Hi everyone!
Just got back from spending a week in Ohio on Annie's Grandpa's farm - so I've got a bunch to post - hope you don't mind!!
I'll tell ya, it was nice being able to get the camera out again. We've basically been in moving mode since the end of July. The apartment is still not set up 100% either, and school starts soon. Gah.
Anyway here's a bunch of photos.

comments/suggestions/critiques/ridiculing welcome!
These were all taken in the barn on the farm...it's very...old...

and there were lots of flowers in the garden...

more:

this was my first attempt at shooting the stars. it was a pretty clear night and the farm is kind of middle-of-nowhere-ish.
the shutter was open for a little over 3 minutes. I am not sure if the blurriness is actually star trails, or atmospheric interference.
i used a remote shutter on with bulb mode. the camera was laying on its back in the middle of the street. it might have vibrated a little when i was walking around. I was moving and the shutter was only 3 minutes because its dark as **** there and there are a lot of wild animals around the house at night - its right on a wildlife preserve, and there are everything from muskrats, to raccoons, to stray cats, to coyotes. So, i was always half-freaking out.
the lighter/orange-ish areas is the milky way.
I'll have to try again sometime.

and since everyone has been posting some pets, here's a few of our cats recently. They are named Rayleigh and Love (after seismic waves - Annie is a geo-nerd - can you tell?) Love is the one with 1 eye.

Wow, lots of pics here.
Just have to comment on #7 - delightful capture of a brilliant flower - nicely isolated with smooth bokeh (nicer than in #8)
#11 and 12 are nice as well.
Looks like movement blur in the stars shot (?cause) but well worth another try for a little longer with a sturdy tripod supporting it.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing some great shots. I think there must of been some camera movement on the star trails - just think of how 1mm movement on earth translates to space
