Brutalist Architecture
Posted By: paulyrichard, 08-26-2009, 06:12 AM

This is a view from the Barbican Housing Estate, in London.
Brutalism, was a style of architecture usin' pure concrete with a rough stone texture, started by Le Corbusier in France. The french word, beton brut literally means raw concrete.

The J. Edgar Hoover buildin' was constructed in the same style, as well as the Boston City Hall, Massachusetts.

As Ash said, textures are wonderful. You see this sort of architecture around - colleges often seem to have older buildings of this style. Never knew what it's called until now.

Engaging photo, Paul.
