HDR try
Posted By: JMR, 08-29-2009, 02:27 PM

I remember trying this Photomatix about a year ago and decided to try it again using four exposures. I didn't like the automatic results so resorted to mixing. As you can see the result is luke warm at best. The image is soft (could be wind movement) and imparts the movement of the leaves in an unbalanced way between exposures. I guess one could get to like these if it produces something creative and interesting. But what I really wanted was to balance the exposures so as to get the sky colours and the foreground natural looking as if exposed properly.

Even on a still day there would be just enough rustling in the leaves to cause movement between exposures and blurring of an HDR combination.

The colours and exposure seems to be very well controlled, though the blur is somewhat offputting.
Nevertheless you see the effect HDR has, and in its place can be very useful.

First thing I thought of when I saw it was 'Emerald City' in the 'Land of Oz'.
This really does look like a fantasy picture to me and I can imagine it being an illustration for a childrens book, the colours are just right for it.

I would like to see the horizon straight though.

Thanks guys. Yes Gary, it is a bit off. I tend to do that when pointing the camera up or down. Ash, maybe next time I will a use for it.
