Lightning is tough to shoot

Tonight I tried my first lightning shoot and I was able to get one decent shot. I missed several great shots because I really don't know what I'm doing. But that's why I'm out there practicing and getting great ideas from all of you. The lens I used for the lightning was the DA 18-250mm, and I captured it at 1 sec, f/8.0, 18mm.

Also, thanks for the recommendations on my "bird on the barbed wire" picture. I received a third place ribbon out of twenty seven photos at the Western Idaho Fair, and the picture also won iconic photo of the month for August (there were four winners) on "Outdoor Idaho's" website.
