Concert Photos using Jupiter-21M 200/4 M42
Posted By: fuseboxx, 08-31-2009, 07:08 AM

Hi everyone! This is my first thread here on PentaxForums and I wanted to share this set. Hope you guys like it. Feel free to post comments or shoot questions or anything

I was in attendance for a concert of a local band and was around 12 rows away from the stage, which is around 10-15 meters. The venue was a closed, relatively small and intimate music hall with decent lighting... but I had to shoot at ISO1600 to get workable pics.

The lens I was using was a Jupiter-21M 200/4 M42 that was borrowed from a friend (although a couple of pics were taken with a 2x teleconverter). Since the audience is not around to roam around to take pics during the concert, I had to make do with what I could capture from my seat.

Here are the pics

At 1600 ISO the noise is a pitty (What camera did you use?), but i like the way you compose and frame. And the mettering is great too. Welcome!!

Great pictures! Good work, its hard taking pictures like that.

I think the ISO noise has a certain charm to it in the pictures with low light.
There are alot of cameras that handles noise really bad, but i think the grain in your pictures is nice, exept when theres to much light like the "drummer" picture.

Thanks I was actually thinking the same thing. A few days before the concert, I was taking some test shots with my camera and figured that I actually liked the effect of the noise as long as it doesn't go overboard. True enough, there were photos that worked really good with the moderate amount of noise that it had.

You're right though. The photo with the drummer is just too noisy.

I think you've done remarkably well also.
Well exposed, composed and focused - each image is great to see (other than the one pcarfan referred to).
Great stuff, and welcome here!

great photos!
this lens is really heavy. I just borrowed one for my K-x (will use it with an m42-PK mount adapter). Did you use a tripod or a monopod? :-)
