FA* 200/4 Macro and Praying Mantis feeding (aka savory shots - round II)
Posted By: Marc Langille, 08-31-2009, 06:53 PM

Here is the first installment of images for the Praying Mantis series: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/post-your-photos/69870-praying-mantis-fee...tml#post724995

Recap: this Mantid was a larger specimen at 4 inches in length. Literally within 30 seconds of setting him on an outdoor umbrella plant, a hapless bee swung by to investigate the camera gear. With blinding reflexes, the bee was captured within the blink of an eye! Taken with the K10D, ISO 100 or 200, F/11 to F/13, EV 0, with flash. No sharpening! No cropping unless otherwise stated.

I promised some "savory shots", aka dismembering of the bee by the Mantid... They are near the bottom!

Crop for more detail:

Still even more graphic images to come... shots of the Mantis dining on the bee - head first…

Regards,
Marc

love the portraits of her as she feeds - she eats her male counterpart in the same way after some procreation fun

Excellent shots. In #3, it looks like she is looking right into the camera - man, that's a great portrait.

They need to make a DA* version of this FA* glass. Seriously. I mean know they stopped FA* producing because everything has moved to Digital but seriously ... very nice.

Of course they do now have a DA* version of the 200 F2.8 FA* I wouldn't be shocked to see a 200 F4 Marco in a few years.
