Pentax 645N in da house
Posted By: rparmar, 09-07-2009, 06:10 PM

My Pentax 645N arrived today, so what's the first thing I do? Take pictures of it. Especially since I have no film right now, so I can't take pictures with it.

Somehow I forgot to dust it off first. Sorry about that. I'm not so great with product shots. But I think the first one is rather nice. (Available light at ISO400 with Vivitar 28/2 K01 on the K20D. Except the middle shot with FA77.)

Attached is the SMC Pentax-FA 645 150mm F2.8 [IF] lens, which I think I'll make my standard. I will have to get used to the rather long close focus distance.

The K100D Super with FA43 has been included for comparison purposes. I know that's not quite fair. The equivalent to the 150/2.8 would be a 60/1.4. I didn't have one of those on hand though.

Wow, looks awesome.
What situations will you be using the 645N (when you get the film)?
Look forward to seeing the results...

It's like a semi trailer compared to a Mini.

Just a beautiful camera!
I know this is going to sound shallow, silly and useless, but......
Pentax form factors are really unbelievable! While I came to be a Pentax shooter through a inherited *ist, I fell in love with the way the camera looked and felt in my hand before I knew anything about competitive brands. I've been in love with my k20 since the day it arrived on my doorstep, and I honestly look at Nikons and Canons and wonder why anyone would accept the aesthetics of the bodies. Just go to a camera store...hold a Canon or Nikon that's comparably priced to a k20. It will feel and look cheap. The grip doesn't look like it's made for the camera, and all of the relatively fast lenses (in the same price range of the 50 1.4) look and feel cheap.....
Sorry -long night and really crappy day - I apologize for the rant.

To me most DSLRs just look the same. There is not much to distinguish one from another. Then something like this comes along and shows just how different a camera can be!

It looks beautiful! I got one with a 75mm. Waiting on some bill catching up to get set up with home processing the b&w and scanning them in.

I am finding this site a huge help:
FigitalRevolution

and this article in particular:

On processing B&W for scanning

Interested in what others think and can't wait to see your work.

Beautiful Camera - lust awakens. Do you think there is a design reference in the K7 grip?

This grip is insanely massive and great to hold. When I tried the K7 it was slightly molded and felt good, but nothing like this baby!
