some of Alberta and B.C., continued......
Posted By: Heinrich Lohmann, 05-21-2007, 10:18 AM

The next morning we kept on going north and after a few stops to take some pictures

we arrived at the Columbia icefields

We took the bus tour out onto the glacier but not in this old bus

Our transport was a little bit more up to date, but the weather was sort of miserable, just around the freezing point with rain and sleet.

I took a few more snaps

and the Bus was leaving for base

to be continued.........

Great series again Heinrich, I think my fave is #2 with the road winding thru that pass. Beautiful shot. Those Columbia Icefields look like the place where if you didn't have a good pair of Sorels, you would sure wish you did.

Simply beautiful Heinrich. I just love the Rockies and wish that they were closer at times.

I really should take the icefields tour some day.

Thank you Dominique, the only "good " months on the glacier are July and August and even than it gets nasty sometimes. I don't really care, I go when I can.

Take care, Heinrich

Thanks again, a good pair of boots don't hurt but are not essential. One has only 20 minutes on the glacier and it is very restricted as to where one can go. Worst thing to happen is one gets wet feet.

Take care, Heinrich

Thank you Stu, it's not really that far from Kelowna. I have never timed it because we never go directly. Since there is a new picture around every bend in the road we have to stop too often but it probably could be driven in 6 to 7 hours. Unless of course there is a mud slide, than it could be days. We missed the last one last week by a few hours.

Take care, Heinrich

Great group of photos - I love the contrast of painted steel contraptions in the middle of a beautiful wilderness.

Thank you daacon, it might not show but it is there. From what we were told the glacier is retreating at an unprecedented pace, but it has happened in earlier years and slowed down again. Sooo...... who knows for sure?

Beautiful pics. My fav is number 2. I love how the mountains create a bowl shape valley and the winding road does a great job of leading your eye all the way through the pic. Bravo!
