BIF - Seagulls - Brighton, South Australia
Posted By: CypherOz, 09-14-2009, 06:20 AM

Sunset at Brighton last night (which was not that good as far as sunsets go)
I managed to get right under a hovering flock of gulls
Fired off a 100 or so shots with the 28-75. Most of them were ok to good; this is just a selection.
The warm light was nice. It was one of those moments - K-7 was set on ISO400 and Av... AF/C - and the Tammy!
I had to move to get right up close and under the birds (and a few were pooping )
Another group of people including a Pentax K-7 shooter were feeding them chips (fries) and there was a stiff breeze blowing - letting them hover almost at arms length.

Awesome shots, the second and last ones are my favourites.

Presents Seagulls in a totally new light, I love it.

I'm not usually a big fan of seagull images... many of these, however, are exceptional! Great lighting and perspectives... well done!

I have tried a few times to get seagull BIF shots, but they seem to scatter when I approach :ugh:

On a serious note, these are really good shots!
I like the lighting, and the last image in particular.

Beautiful shots with wonderful lighting. I like the last one with the three gulls in a row.

gulls are so commonplace... but these pics are anything but common..
great perspective, clarity and color.... your also lucky the gulls didn't 'decorate' you....

Thanks everyone!

The K-7 AF/C and frame rate really helped!

I like #3 and #5; incredible how birds can just hover on the breeze like that (and make great subjects for shooting!).

These are probably some of the best BIF shots i've seen - the colours are rich and warm, not to mention uber sharp!

those are very cool, with so many birds in the frame it looks almost artificial but in a cool way, ends up looking very original

Some of the best Seagull shots I've seen. Right place, right time, right gear, right skill!
