TINY Mantis
Posted By: VaughnA, 09-14-2009, 05:37 PM

Got a couple of shots of this TINY Mantis on our Deck. I'd say she was about 1/2 inch long. Best I could do with my newly aquired and for sale F35-70 were these crops. Considering her size they didn't come out too bad. I didn't know that there were adult mantises this small.

Just to let you know, this insect is called a mantis fly, and despite its name it has no relation to praying mantids. It is related to the lace wing family

Also, trust me some species adult mantids get much smaller
(I raise exotic insects )

Nice shots btw... I've never actually had the privilege to shoot these little guys before.

First one would have been awesome with focus spot on, but these are still a novelty.
Nice work.

Thanks. It was hard to focus manually and these are severely cropped. I really would have liked to have a true macro but I was actually surprised how well the lens did. I may end up keeping the lens instead of ebaying it if it doesn't sell here.

That is the coolest! I love shots of PM's and look for them this time of year but have never seen the eggs before. Great job.
