something cute and something creepy to me
Posted By: little laker, 05-22-2007, 08:03 PM

I hate snakes, although I know that only the rattlers are dangerous here
But I still respect them, and couldn't resist taking this guy's pic when I saw him today.
(good thing for telephoto lenses)

he was going in the right direction here

But I do like chipmunks, and did manage this quick pic (he wasn't posing for anyone today, so I was lucky to get this pic)

and I'm still working on my B&W technique

Nothing smaller then a 500mm lens if I where to shot snakes. Add a 2x teleconverter as well or my trusty old .308.
The shallow DOF works well on the chipmunk but I personally prefere more contrast to my B&W shots. Nice photos.

Cheers

arghh, hate snakes... Don't have any photos of them I can think of, I have run over a few (not on purpose)... Generally with Australian snakes I don't want to go back and look at them, lol..

I think I like the B&W more though if you don't mind me saying I would increase the contrast a little.. though my work monitor is far from great, I will look again tonight from home..

Thanks for the input. My computers off until tomorrow afternoon sometime, but I'll work on the chipmunk then

Working with B&W is fun, but I still have to figure out the ins and outs of it

Stu, snakes I can do without thank you very much. lol. The chipmunk is nice, I do prefer the black and white and I also agree with Joele that a little more contrast wouldn't hurt.

Take care, Heinrich

Thank you for your input, I'm a whole lot happier with this guys picture now

Hah, you guys are all chicken. Here I am photographing a garter snake with a 28mm (which is what happened to be on the camera at the time):

And here's one of the pictures I got (slight crop, if I recall correctly):

Of course you wouldn't catch me doing this anywhere with dangerous snakes! You Aussies have good reason to be a bit leery of them.

Stu, the chippie is much improved with more contrast, you caught him in a great pose, too!

Julie
