First try at water drops + others
Posted By: vroom_skies, 09-19-2009, 10:27 PM

Hello all,
This was my first attempt at water drops. I only received my flash yesterday, so it's a learning curve.

Which do you guys prefer?

You really need to view the B&W on black, other wise it looks way to dark. I wish I had more going on in the sky to help with both the color version and B&W, but ya can't win them all.

More to come.

Not bad on the water drop - it's not a spectacular waterdrop, but it's well captured.
The B&W stairs looks bolder and focuses attention more on form and pattern.
Nice ones.

I'd be happy with the water drop for a first attempt.

As for the stairs i'd say the b&w version, but it does look a touch bland for my tastes.

I personally like the water drop quite a bit. Of the stairs shots, I think the color rendition shows more contrast. The black and white could benefit from some filtering to increase the contrast.

I would crop the waterdrop about 1/4 inch above the big drop. I agree with mithrandir, the BW version needs to somehow capture the wonderful contrast of the colour version, which I like quite a bit.

Thanks for the comments everyone.
Yeah, there are a fews things I'm not so fond of with the water drop. However being my first attempt, I was quite pleased.

I agree with the comments on the stairs. Feel free to edit it and see what you come up with. I just wish the sky wasn't so bland, as I feel thats where it goes wrong.

Hi Bob,
I went after the stairs a little aggressively (curves) and this HDR wanna-be is what came out:
