To crop or not to crop ?
Posted By: fredg, 09-20-2009, 11:03 AM

New on the forum, I hope you don't mind if I ask you this question:

"How far can I crop in a picture without changing the mood or the subject ?"

I can't decide for now.

So just a few examples, improving or loosing something doing so ?

No PP, just cropping (I guess I'll need to process the pictures especially for the last ones, not as sharp as expected)

How to improve ? cc welcome

fredg

I will be of no help since I will answer that crop is a matter of taste

So, crop the way you feel you like them or better yet, compose first so you don't have to crop. (If the lens allowe)

Thanks for your comments netuser.

Usually I try to compose before taking the picture (following your advise, most of my pictures are "untouched": no PP & non crop), but I realized that sometime cropping is not that bad ...

From times to times, I feel it helps pointing to the real subject, especially on the web where all details can't be seen, but I'm afraid of going too far... I'm still searching examples on the web or in books about "before and after cropping" ...

For example, Marc Langille's crops are really astounding ...
but I try to find something ... more to my level
