Nature I'm finally Fifty

I finally got me a fifty thanks to a lucky find at the local pawnshop. A couple of my first attempts at using it. Still trying to get used to the DOF. I can't believe the difference in sharpness & contrast between it and my kit lenses. I just need to learn to use it.

Congratulations on your new lens. I got one myself this summer and I think it's fantastic.

Yep, when you get a new toy, you tend to overuse the new features. Still trying to get a feel for the DOF, especially for closeups.

When I read the title of this thread, I thought the pic had something to do with age or a birthday. But a 50mm is definitely nice. Have fun with your new toy.

yes its a big difference in dof and amount of light let in between the fifty and the kit lens

Its a lot of fun to play with shallow DOF, really liek the insect (fly?) in the first one, very sharp against diffuse background
