More of the Australian duststorm
Posted By: Ash, 09-22-2009, 07:58 PM

Here are some more of the unusual scenery people have been confronted with amidst one of the most widespread duststorms in Aussie history.

Seems to have affected all of the eastern states, and we're getting a fair whack of it here in south-east Qld, just as the NSWers are today...

As expected AWB was of no use - needed manual WB of about 2900K to get it just about right...

Indeed hope all is well , great images. How is the local wildlife faring ? At least humans can try and get out of it, still as your and Bruce's photo's show it looks difficult to escape that monster.
Thanks Dave. No, the dust was inescapable. I don't think anything was spared, but hopefully won't cause too much havoc with wildlife.

No, this was all dust. Red dust from central Australia blown in from the west.

Thanks for posting these fascinating photos. You have done a superb job of capturing the storm. A great use of photography! (And a good example of the benefit of well-sealed equipment.)

Cheers,

Dan

Really fine shots , Ash. Surreal looking. But I guess I would not wish this kind of storm on anyone.

Ash, nice photos but a bad situation. We saw it tonight on the News Cast, looked terrible
hopefully the winds dye down soon.

Amazingly, things are totally back to normal today.
As if it never happened (except for all the dust on the cars).
Carwashing business must be laughing all the way to the bank this week...

The positive side to the storm is that it makes for some awesome photos. Just read about the big dust storm in our local paper today. Must be a sight to see.

Great images of a bad situation Ash. Have you seen the satellite photo NASA release of the dust yesterday? Quite impressive. But not as good as yours. I mean they had a billion dollar satellite to shoot with. Not much bang for buck with that one eh?

Didn't get a chance to check the satellite images out - they weren't by a Pentax so I guess I'm indifferent to them

No worries.
We woke up to a clear morning and in the course of an hour, around about 10am, a smoldering orange glow with visibility of less than 20m blanketed the atmosphere where we were.

Thanks mate.
We woke up to a clear morning and within an hour, around about 10am, we were blanketed with a smoldering orange glow with visibility of less than 50m.

It lasted about 12 hours.
