Two raven
Posted By: Heinrich Lohmann, 09-23-2009, 07:29 PM

On the second day of my two day trip it rained, almost steady all day long. I was in a rest area looking around for anything to take a picture of when a raven flew in and sat on top of a dead tree. It was a job for Bigma but I was reluctant to expose that lens to the rain so I got the 55-300. By the time that I had the tripod set up there were two ravens. Here are some of the many that I took in the next ten minutes before they departed.

K20D and 55-300, about 50% crops.

Another set of praise-worthy images from this consumer lens.
Just brilliant.
Pretty sharp and colourful.
Very well done as usual Heinrich.

Great series Heinrich, you do very well with that lens. I have seen many other good shots from that lens, and I think it's one that performs beyond it's price in the right hands.

Thanks for posting.

Wow, Heinrich, these are spectacular - they show what a great photographer can do under less than ideal conditions.

I wish I could capture wildlife this well, but every time I try the answer is NEVERMORE

Great job my friend.

Thank you and you are welcome. For the price there is none better in that range.

Beautiful series Heinrich, I'm totally impressed with how well you caught the colour variations in those birds. Most shots of ravens are solid black, these are outstanding.

Beautifully done Heinrich. I've always found it hard to meter black birds, but you've done a wonderful job of capturing them.

Thank you Scott. It was not that difficult, at least when it's raining the light is soft, almost flat and I just measured the darkest area.

Take care,

Thank you Dave. Most ravens are a pain in the you know what, they are smart birds and learn very quickly to beg for a handout where the tour busses stop. I have taken shots of them with the 16-45 five or six feet away.

Thank you Martha, the soft light in the rain helped.

Very nice series, also good processing to bring out the detail and contrast. it makes it much more interesting that there are two birds and the way they are interacting
