Looking at the Stars
Posted By: skinja, 09-23-2009, 08:50 PM

One of my favorites so far from the workshop. Yes I did push the colors a little, but not as much as you might think. The most important thing is..... I like it.

I was dissapointed with the original as it transfered from LR to flickr. Here is a lighter version, which reflects what I see at home.

Hope you don't mind.

As always CC is most welcome.

Thanks for looking.

I really like the colors in the sky and clouds. Perspective is nice too, makes me think about what he is aiming his gear at.

I personally would have upped the exposure by a stop or so, to try and get more separation between the dark clouds and the tripod/scope. I think you could do that and still get the neat colors, but you may have to bump up the saturation a bit more.

Overall, nice balance in the frame between the silhouettes and the main subject, the sky.

Thanks for the comments. I agree with your assessment. I get so damn frustrated in the transfer from lightroom to flickr, what appears good on my screen during processing usually comes out darker in flickr. but I don't have the same problem when I send it to print.

Any Ideals?

Putting images on the web has been a great source of frustration for me in the past year that I've been shooting with a DSLR. I still haven't figured it out, but Flickr seems to be one of the better photo hosts, aside from the best, which is hosting it yourself on your own personal page.

Picasa is a pain in the neck to work with, but it seems pretty good about retaining sharpness and colors.

It was truly a great evening, great scenery, great friends, a couple cold adult beverages. How does it get any better.

wow what a fantastic sky, purple! I guess only too bad the siluette is obscurred a bit by the black clouds but a fantastic shot nonetheless, love those colors in the sky

Nice colors, nice shot. But the most important thing is what you yourself said:
