I posted this shot of my 4-yo son, Charlie, taken about 3 hours ago, to my Flickr account. Just thought I'd share with you lovely pentaxforums people as well...

That is a fantastic portrait! I love it. Grain adds dramatic effect, lighting is great. How staged was this? Did you just see the opertunity and take it or was lighting and the like set up? Please don't take that as a criticism, it is more that I would hve never thought to compose something like that unless most of the hard work was done and I spotted it.

Gee I'm getting lazy...think I need to have a photography weekend where I actually put some effort into taking some portraits, landscapes etc.

Just had a look at your gallery, top work indeed. I love the ones capturing the tops of the building. Fantastic colour.

thank you both for the nice comments!
blwnhr - this is just an opportunistic snap - this boy never, ever poses for photographs! It was just a question of positioning myself to make the most of the available light and waiting until his face is turned the right way.

I sometime set up off-camera flashes around the room. Fun examples here and here. Getting a decent shot is still akin to wildlife photography though! Thank goodness for digital - I would be financially ruined if I used 35mm...

I am usually like..."Oh crap...not another kid shot!"

But that is a really cool image.

Thanks for sharing.

Nice photo of a good looking boy. The real value of this picture will be realized way down the road.

dwinnert: lol - high praise indeed! 'preciate it.

There's good portraits and there's dull portraits - it doesn't matter what the age of the subject is. That's my view anyway.
