How big was that Cave
Posted By: Jimbo, 09-28-2009, 05:43 PM

To give you a better prospective on the size of one of the caves we were in here is a picture. The person at the back the the shot is Grant's wife Ann. This was huge and one tough exposure. JIM

Monumental.
The perspective is vital for us to appreciate how big it really is.

Thanks Marc. It took awhile to get the shot. As you know it was difficult lighting in here. JIM

So true Ash. It was a huge area. wish we would have hit it at sunrise instead of mid-day. JIM

Neat picture! It reminds me of Zion National Park (and of the difficulties I had shooting practically anything there). Where did you take it?

I think that question can become a little fuzzy at times, this was our first time in the area. We covered a lot of territory in a short period of time.

This canyon was 11.5 miles off hyway 12 at Boulder on the Burr trail.

Here is a link to google Maps.

Oh the burr trail what we seen of it was all asphalt, we didn't get to the challenging part of Burr. But we did make it down a few roads that Mister Hertz would not have appreciated. Note to self Never Ever buy a used rental car

This should help explain it better Steve: the Burr Trail from Boulder, UT along HWY 12 to the Capitol Reef Park boundary is paved. It's another 19.8 miles before you reach the park boundary- then the pavement ends...

Boulder, UT --> Long Canyon, UT --> Capitol Reef Park boundary: View Larger Map

On the second workshop weekend, I did the full loop down the Burr Trail road switchback and headed north on Notom-Bullfrog road through Capitol Reef National Park. That is some switchback!!! I was in 1st gear all the way down driving a Jeep... took a few photos of it too...

Cheers,
Marc
