Glen Canyon National Monument & Elk Ridge, Utah
Posted By: Marc Langille, 09-28-2009, 07:05 PM

Part of the pre-workshop scouting trip - accompanied by yours truly Gary (Damn Brit)....

Glen Canyon National Recreational Area (25.3MP version):

Link to EXIF

Above is part of Lake Powell. Taken only with a CPL mounted, exposed for the rocks in the left, shot in RAW as usual. I did minor exposure tweaks to darken the rocks back to their actual colors. Yes, the clouds were wonderfully white that day! The above image was up sized to the equivalent of 25.3MP or 6114 x 4113 pixels.

Elk Ridge:

Link to EXIF

We are very close to a microcosm of meadows, birds, deciduous and coniferous trees. Elk Ridge has a complete alpine ecosystem just a mile away a a few hundred feet higher up from this semi-arid land that surrounds it. It is several miles from Natural Bridges National Monument.

I hope you enjoy these images!

Regards,
Marc

Marc, I( liked this one from the first time I seen it. [#1] and I almost picked this one to print. Need to PM on this PP work. Well done my friend. JIM
Jim, I am glad you enjoyed it again! It's tough not to really look at the photo in depth - perhaps it's somewhat 3D in nature? I really tried to capture leading lines and depths to the best of my abilities.

Side note: there was a 150 foot drop about 10 feet in front of me! I had restricted options in terms of where I could go. For safety reasons, I wasn't going much closer to the edge.

Marc, is that horizon off on the first image? JIM
That was worth a try...

Wonderful images, Marc. The first one, in particular, is a knockout.

Jer
Thanks Jer and I boosted the exposure in the shadow area of the foreground rock - I think it's much better details now. Thanks again for looking and commenting!

Marc

Fine work, Marc. Crisp and well composed. I assume you used a polarizer. The red brick mountains and terrain really does stand out.

JMR
I did use a CPL and the rocks are that red - it's amazing. Thank you for the kind words!

Marc
