Glen Canyon National Monument & Elk Ridge, Utah
Posted By: Marc Langille, 09-28-2009, 07:05 PM

Part of the pre-workshop scouting trip - accompanied by yours truly Gary (Damn Brit)....

Glen Canyon National Recreational Area (25.3MP version):

Link to EXIF

Above is part of Lake Powell. Taken only with a CPL mounted, exposed for the rocks in the left, shot in RAW as usual. I did minor exposure tweaks to darken the rocks back to their actual colors. Yes, the clouds were wonderfully white that day! The above image was up sized to the equivalent of 25.3MP or 6114 x 4113 pixels.

Elk Ridge:

Link to EXIF

We are very close to a microcosm of meadows, birds, deciduous and coniferous trees. Elk Ridge has a complete alpine ecosystem just a mile away a a few hundred feet higher up from this semi-arid land that surrounds it. It is several miles from Natural Bridges National Monument.

I hope you enjoy these images!

Regards,
Marc

Beautiful photos. I really miss this kind of landscape. Someday I'll make it back to the Rockies and the Grand Canyon and also get around to some of these other places all along the range. Thanks to you and all the others who participated in this workshop for bringing your photos here for the rest of us to enjoy.

Wow Marc those are good. That first one is stunning - such detail. It must have been 7.1

Thank you Mike! It's truly a stunning area, despite it's semi arid environment.

That is very very good. Stunning even.

You truly are The Maestro Marc.

Anne & I are going to sit down and go through Lightroom's online tutorials next week and try and get a handle on this sharpening process. I have Bens technique also written down some where.....only question is where!

PS: & talking of your travel companion, The Damn Brit.....where is he?

Hi Grant, hope you are recovered from the long return trip?

Your claim that I might be a maestro is very kind of you, but I am nothing without the symphony. Those beautiful musicians (nature) create the song that I capture...

I have Ben's technique stored away, so I can send it to you. However, it's best only for a few things in nature, so it's mainly for portraiture. Parts of it (sharpening) can be quite applicable though!! Please let me know if I can be of assistance.

Gary is diving into school related things. I think he's got to catch up on being away for almost a week too.

Regards,
Marc

Fine work, Marc. Crisp and well composed. I assume you used a polarizer. The red brick mountains and terrain really does stand out.
