15 minute photoshoot
Posted By: Gooshin, 10-04-2009, 06:06 PM

a friend dropped by for a quick chat and a drink, then the two of us headed downtown to meet some friends

on the way out she said she wanted a picture out of the blue.. i busted out my umbrella and we did a few snaps...

i dont know why i did the square format + B/W, spur of the moment sort of thing

C*C welcome

1,3, & 4 are my favorites but I like them all.

I wish I had friends that looked like that. Does she model?

Excellent work. the bw is a good choice. They have ambiance and are well composed. Even in the finger image, your model looks quite sultry.

I'd like to see the texture of her white shirt 'pop' a bit more, certainly in number 1. Partly web size shot, and partly exposure methinks. Great shots!

on my calibrated monitor i can see the texture on the left side,

although i was sort of going for the "blown" out look at first, however all histograms are giving me no clipping.

but you're right maybe i'll try to edit in some darkness in there.

to Pentax_XTC, no she does not model, she spends 80% of her time studying international business politics and economic... 19% of her time drinking coffee, and 1 % sleep. I'm surprised she is still alive.

and what is exactly, a "beauty" shot? :ugh:
Good question...
I know this may be a quite ambiguous answer, but, typically, lighting and poses that make your subject/model look her best. Forget about cool lighting/ funky angles..etc.

Nice impromptu series. I shared a house with a law student who had a similar division of time and lived off of extra strong espresso. Probably the highest strung person I've ever spent time around.

Serge, my suggestion is to avoid doing 15 minute photoshoots in your kitchen. My next suggestion, and it ties into the first one, is to be wary of the background just as much as you are weary of the foreground (the subject). Kitchen cabinets, posters, windows, drapes, and couch corners are alright in candid or documentary photos, but are not welcome additions to photoshoots, which are supposed to carry an air of professionalism.

i never said i was going for profesionalism!

as for the background, remember that movie you shot, we had to put you on the balcony and shoot through the window to get good field of view... my place is not exactly studio friendly!

When I hear "photoshoot", I think "professionalism". Perhaps I'm biased at the use of that word.

And I'm all too familiar at the limitations of your place, hence my advice is to avoid photoshoots in your kitchen.
