Piano + baby girl + wife
Posted By: ChooseAName, 10-06-2009, 12:38 PM

Taken with 50/1.4 and Metz 48 flash. Don't know why GIMP is all of a sudden erasing EXIF info

What do you think? Personally, I think it's one of the best I've taken so far. Minimal processing too. I believe I just imported into UFRaw/GIMP then resized, or might have used Irfanview to just save it as a JPEG.

Is the piano frame distracting, or does it give the pic some framing? I thought about cropping out the frame, but then thought it might make the photo look a bit..."abrupt"??

Your honest opinions appreciated. Thanks.

Nice shot and colors. I'd try a version with more focus on the baby and using your wife to frame part of the pic on the top and right. It'll bring focus in the picture on your baby's expression while sitting at the piano.

Hope that helps!

Nice candid.
Good use of DoF although it appears that your wife is slightly OOF (arm OK, but face not).
The window highlight is distracting, and hard to do anything about now other than burning.
Framing's not too bad - moving the cam slightly to the right would have brought your wife more in the frame and less of the redundant upright piano part.
Still a good family photo.

I agree it's a nice family memory FWIW I would keep the piano.

try rotating the picture so that the picture is 'straight', using the window and the piano as a guide. crop away the excess and the vertical part on the left will be less intruding. hope it helps.
