Great handheld bird shot. I like the colour in the bird and the leaves.

What is it?

I agree on the colour - really nice! Nice pose, too, and catchlight in the eye.

Looks like a house sparrow to me.

We have chickadees that do the same thing when we fill the feeder. It hangs on a dead tree (yeah, we have a dead tree in the middle of the yard, our landscaping is decidedly unconventional) and sometimes they'll even come land on the top of it, just above our heads, and watch as we fill and re-hang the feeder. Cheeky little buggers, I figure they're saying, "Hurry up already!"

Nice shot, that 55-300 is consistently putting out sharp images from multiple players. It appears to be a really good lens for the price point in the hands of the right people..... and you appear to be another one of the group.

Look forward to seeing more of your work.

John

Foxglove is right, it's a male house sparrow.

Thanks guys.
Being from Australia, I wouldn't have a clue about North American birds.
Seems to be quite an attractive bird for something with a common sounding name.

thanks all....just curious how many handhold for 300mm shots versus draggin' out a mono or tripod?????? perhaps it's middle age, but getting those sharp shots for birds is not the easiest thing to do.....
