Thanks for all the thoughtful replies. I truly do appreciate the comments.

At the same time I took a few shots of a very frosty red rose still clinging to life in the garden, but it just didn't look right. Pentax's mishandling of processing bright red colours is very disapointing. Well, on the K10D anyway. Maybe the K20D or K-7 treat red better, I just don't know. Nor can I afford to know at the moment.

Yes, with the close-up filter/lens/thing. (Not sure what to call it, really.)
I actually don't think I'd used it with the lens before. Seems sharp enough with little or no distortion. I'll probably use it again now that I know it's okay.
