Do you get the idea?
Well, this applies for an ordinary 100mm and 50mm lens. But does it apply if they are already capable of 1:1 or 1:2 from the start?
Tamron adaptall 2 SP 90mm f2.5 macro 1:2 certainly don't need a 90 mm tube to get to 1:1. The dedicated adaptall 2 tube is only about 4 cm.
When I've been playing around with my SMC Pentax-DFA 100mm f2.8 macro 1:1 with tube and maximal close up (set to 1:1) it appears that I get 2:1 already with a tube of about 4cm length, not 100mm (I've been measuring actual size of subject and it's size on the picture knowing the sensor size and calculated the macro dimension).
So I think this problem is more complex for macro lenses.
