Star Trails (night exposure)
Posted By: Marc Langille, 10-23-2009, 08:19 PM

Just one!

Star Tracks over Chimney Rock, Capitol Reef National Park. Last night of the second workshop in September. Having a bright half moon in the sky made all the difference...

Total exposure time was 14 minutes, 25 seconds, F/7.1. Link to EXIF

Regards,
Marc

Thats a double WOW! for me.

Explanation: On the way to the Utah Workshop, John, Ronda, Anne & I started rating things we saw on the "WOW!-O- METER".

Triple was the highest we gave....and I forget where now....along the road between Mex Hat & Hanksville I think, maybe that was only a double and the triples were in Capitol Reef.

Spectacular shot Marc.

Very nice Marc. I recently purchased a shutter release cable to be able to attempt my own star shots. Here is my first attempt. Also taken around the fifteen minute mark at f5.6. Not as nice as yours, but I'll take it and learn from it.

Stellar shot Marc! A little moon light makes all the difference in the world. Is it time to go back yet?

Practice is the key and thank you.

Thanks John - it really does so lesson learned.

Regarding your question: very soon! I'll be pulling myself out of bed and headed into the park around 7AM. Can you make it??

Cheers,
Marc

Hey, Marc - that shot is really stunning: the star trails coupled with the almost "daylight" look of the landscape is very cool.
