Tested sigma 70-200 shots (animals)
Posted By: roentarre, 11-17-2006, 10:55 PM

Gone to a reserve and a nearby zoo, done a few shots on sigma 70-200/2.8 which i got from cameta auctions less than a week ago.

This lens is amazing. Fast focus and clear picture. Not too heavy but looks heavy.

A few shots posted here

Great

I'm glad to see you got your lens, I use mine 75% of the time, it is almost always on my camera. Let us know what you think of it as you use it. Believe it or not, that lens taught me how to use my istDS efficiently.

Thanks for all your kind words. This lens is quite underated i reckon. It is sharp wide open throughout the whole zoom range. Might be slightly soft wide open at 200mm end but still great image quality. Sharpest at f5.6 with impeccable colour!

Bokeh might be a bit dissapointing though. Bokeh is great with bright highlight background but ugly tubular whirls with dark backgrounds.

I am comparing bokeh of sigma 70-200/2.8 to FA 77/1.8 here.

The zoom ring is a bit tight but i mainly used the lens on 200mm end anyway.

The lens looks heavy but not too bad when hand held.

I am going to use it in today's protest in melbourne today

Thanks Scott. I guess it is a dream to find Fa* 80-200/2.8 (I heard Lance had this lens ...)

Would love to try DFA 200 or 300 as well

One thing that strikes me is how rich the colours are, not at all like the Sigma I know ;-)

Very nice James... ;-)

P.S. Have you been playing with the 50/1.4 much today? like it?

Yeah, sigma surprised me on this one! Usually the colour would be washed out, slow frustrating AF focus that sounds more annoying than aussie flies in outback.

Well, i would not fault much on this lens though

p.s. I was going to try 50/1.4 out but the day is just too hot!

maybe a dinner with colleagues tonight to try it out the DOF. Thanks for lending me the lens
