Test shots of Helios 44K-4 from Russia
Posted By: legacyb4, 10-30-2009, 10:08 PM

Just got my package today from an eBay seller; lens was bagged, bubbled, and boxed but missing a rear-end cap. Glass is in flawless condition, blades are clean, and the focus/aperture rings work.

Tricky lens to work with for me due to the extra step of having to meter before taking my shot (something I'm not quite used to yet). Mostly close-ups because of the rainy weather, hopefully some more shots over the few days will follow.

That's one sharp copy.
What is it with these Helios's that makes them famous/infamous?
Shots I've seen from it have not fallen short of excellent...

Another quick series; it's unpredictable when that dizzy bokeh kicks in. Almost as if you need a certain combination of background objects, distance from main subject, and a little bit of black magic!

Happy Halloween, everyone!

What sets it apart is the type of boken it produces - the 44K is a bit more swirly than I thought it would be, or maybe it's just your copy.

I'd love to get one, but you have to be careful with the OOF depending on what kind of pictures you are taking. Definitely not for portraits against backlight, or you end up getting too much distraction in the shot.

Lovely images from everyone!
