Devil's Peak HDR
Posted By: Kadachi, 10-31-2009, 05:01 PM

I have recently found out about HDR photo's which look absolutely amazing. So I thought I would try it out with some of my photo's.
This is one I have done with only one photos with changing the exposure. I know ideally you need the same photo with different exposures.

I know its not the best it can look, but I'm just starting out. I will be using this process alot in the future.

If you turned the saturation down a little bit, I think the halo around the trees would go away.

Nice try - the potential is certainly there - HDR opens up lots of opportunities.
But the downside, as you see here, is the limitation of halos and unnatural plastic appearances to HDR images.

Thanks for the tip mithrandir.

Thanks Ash. It certainly does open up some opportunities to enchance your photo's.

Here's a more refined attempt.

More refined indeed! That is outstanding. You've brought the picture closer to what you saw and it still looks very natural. Way to go.

Your photos leave me confused. Why would you attempt HDR on a scene which has a tonal range that your camera can capture in a single shot? The impression I'm left with after seeing your photos is that you're less interested in HDR and more interested in tonally-flat images. The only complaint I could've had about the technical aspects of your first image was its colour balance.
